Hello all,
As we come to the end of the year and the beginning of a new one, it’s an excellent time to stop. In DiscoverEase in Movement classes we practice starting by stopping, to figure out where we’re at, let go of what we don’t need and free ourselves up for something new. We give ourselves time to observe what we might be doing without being aware of it so that we can have more choice in what we do and how we do it.

Observing ourselves doesn’t mean being critical, it means looking objectively, without judgement. When I practice this kind of observation, I find it easier to be kind(er) to myself and learn from situations, or to find humor and ease in situations in which I might get stressed out.

Stopping to observe is our first step. The next (and simultaneous) step in Alexander Technique is to propose a direction for ourselves. Alexander Technique provides us with a way of directing our bodies in space without excess force for greater balance, ease of movement and the right amount of muscle tone (not too much and not too little).

This practice of stopping, observing and directing helps us to become more aware and more accepting of what is while at the same time letting go of unnecessary effort – not just in our body, but in our whole self. It helps us to move in the direction we’d like to move in more effortlessly and fully, with greater presence and calm.

There’s no time like the present! Perhaps you’d like to pause for a moment as you are reading this to check in with your body, your support, your breath, your verticality, your space. Where can you invite yourself to stop right now so that you can be in an easier way? I’m doing the same thing as I write this. And then we’ll carry on with a greater awareness of ourselves and where we’re headed.

I look forward to seeing you all in on-going online classes! I will be in Buenos Aires in January and February, There are a couple schedule changes.
